Winter weather ended the week with a bang. Due to inclement weather schools were dismissed 2 hours early. The front office checked out approximately 500 students in a time period of about an hour and a half. The entire Ardmore staff, particularly the office staff worked extremely hard to ensure everyone’s safety during this time. Parents were very considerate and patient and things went as well as they could during an event such as this. Hopefully we will not need to do this again, but winter has a couple of months remaining.
Mr. Preston Fogg was named a regional winner in the Bryant/Jordan Scholar Athlete Program. This is a huge honor and we are very proud of Preston. This qualifies Preston to compete in the state competition and we wish him the best of luck in Birmingham.
Basketball season is winding down and our seniors will be honored at a pep rally on February 1, 2010 due the weather cancellation of senior night. Our basketball teams have played wonderfully this season and we look forward to a big area tournament and wish both of our teams luck.
The AHS Varsity Cheerleaders will sponsor the first “Top Tiger” Competition. This will be a competition between 15 guys in grades 10-12 to win the title of “Top Tiger” and other prizes. This is similar to the “Dream Date” competition held in previous years. This event looks to be quite interesting.

Hunter's Highlights
This past week has been a very busy week at Ardmore High School. The County Tournament concluded this past week with Ardmore making a great showing. All of our teams advanced to the second round, or the finals. Our JV boys and varsity boys made it to the final and played outstanding games, but came up a little short. We had several players will All-County Honors and these names will be posted soon on the school website. Everyone that represented Ardmore High School should be proud at how we were represented.
Wednesday, January 27, 2010 Ardmore will conduct its mid-year CIP review. This is something required by the state and takes a great deal of effort from a lot of people. Ardmore is a great school and we have no doubt our visitors will reach the same conclusion. However, as we say all the time, “When we cease getting better, we stop being good”. We are always looking for better ways to educate our young people and covet honest critique.
It is hard to believe that pre-registration is upon us already. We are starting a little earlier this year due to some computer issues taking place in the summer. Pre-registration is a vital time because decisions will be made that will shape your child’s educational future. We encourage all parents to sit down and discuss your child’s schedule with them and contact us if you have any questions please let us know. Our school website is also a wonderful resource for you.
Congratulations to Dagan Morrow and Kevin Shelton for being selected to represent Ardmore High School as nominees for the Limestone County Spirit Award. One male and one female were chosen from all the county schools' nominees to receive the award. Dagan and Kevin did not win the county award, but this is a huge honor for which Dagan and Kevin are both to be commended.
Ardmore High School celebrates Nation Board Appreciation Month in a couple of ways. Plaques are presented to Mr. Shannon and Mr. Hilliard, who represents the Johnson district which of course feeds Ardmore High School, for all their hard work and dedication. A luncheon is also held at school to recognize all of our board members. We want to thank all the teachers that bring food for the event. Special thanks go to Ms. Wanda Walker and Ms. Debbie Vining for their hard work organizing and planning this event.

Hunter's Highlights
There have been a lot of great things happening in the classrooms of Ardmore High School. Ms. DeGrafenried’s Art class has been doing silhouette drawings and the students seem to be doing a wonderful job. Technology is being used all over the campus and one example is Coach Martin’s class using an instructional game similar to Jeopardy in order to review material for a test. The use of the game and the Promethean board make you feel like you are right there in the studio.
Our basketball teams continue to have a great year. It is hard to believe that the County Tournament is upon us. All of our teams will be competing for the County Championship. Both of our varsity teams are still in the hunt for an Area Championship and advancing in the play-offs. Kevin Shelton and Dagan Morrow are this year’s nominees for the Limestone County Spirit Award, given every year during the finals of the County Tournament.
Ardmore High School recently held its annual Spelling Bee. Middle School students competed to advance to the County Spelling Bee. Lance Perry was the champion speller for the 2009-2010 school year. We wish Lance luck as he competes in the County and hopefully the state competition.
Congratulations to Rachel Bridges for being selected the Ardmore High School DAR Good Citizen recipient! The announcement has been made that Rachel is the Limestone County Winner as well! Congratulations to her!!! The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools. The student selected as the school's DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism to an outstanding degree.
Report cards went out this week and hopefully everyone is excited about their grade, but if not, the second semester is just beginning so there is still time to change that grade!

Spelling Bee
Congratulations to Lance Perry for winning the Spelling Bee. Lance will advance to the county competition. We had over 40 contestants this year and we hope the event continues to grow. Congratulations once again to Lance.
Spelling Bee
Our MS students will watch their peers compete in the annual Spelling Bee. This is the second year to have the spelling bee in front of the school. Participation has grown tremendously and we looked forward to even more growth in the future.
